Type A Edison bulb refers to the classic pear-shaped bulb with an Edison screw base. Since the early 20th century, this type of bulb is the most popular among everyday electric lights. A 60 bulb (or its USC equivalent, A19 bulb), with its diameter of 60 mm (19/8 in or 2 3/8 in) at the widest point, is the most commonly used A-series light bulb type. Usually, a typical A 19 bulb is about 110 mm (4 3/8 in) in length.
In terms of whether LED Edison bulbs can be installed in existing fixtures, you should check both the maximum overall diameter (MOD) and the maximum overall length (MOL) of light bulbs for determination. By checking the MOD of a bulb shell, you get the size of this light bulb; and by measuring the length from the base to the top, you get its MOL information. The type of lamp base should be checked as well. It is noticeable that all type A19 Edison bulbs are with a standard medium base.
